Fuji Classic: The Closest Golf Course to Mt. Fuji and a Day of Unforgettable Golf
On Friday, April 19th, I took a much-needed PTO day from work and booked a round of golf at Fuji Classic. I came across this course online while searching for "Closest golf course to Mt. Fuji." Apparently, Fuji Classic is the nearest golf course to the iconic mountain.
I woke up around 5 a.m. and drove from Tokyo to Fuji Classic, hoping for clear skies and a perfect view of Mt. Fuji. Despite the past week's cloudy weather, Friday was sunny with just a hint of clouds.
When I arrived at the course, the wind was incredibly strong, and I quickly realized I couldn’t play in just a polo shirt. Luckily, I had a spare windbreaker, thin as a plastic trash bag, but it did the job.
The first few holes were challenging, with clouds circling around the top of Mt. Fuji, obstructing the view.
However, by the fifth hole, the clouds moved away, and Mt. Fuji was fully visible.
The wind was so strong that it carried my ball over the group ahead, who were about 280 yards away. They were upset and waited for me to apologize. I put on my best sorry face and begged for forgiveness.
"Sorry, the cart said the front group was far enough that you could hit. I am so sorry. I will wait at least 350 yards next time." - me
Yes, Japanese golf carts speak. Despite one of them looking like Yakuza, I got away without any trouble.
One of the highlights of Fuji Classic is its most iconic par 3, located on an island that looks like a wave. It’s a sight unlike any other and truly needs to be seen to be believed.
